Lake Charles, LA (April 22, 2025) – As the Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators gear up for the 2025 season, the team is calling on the local community to help provide a home away from home for a few of their players. With several athletes still in need of housing, the Gators are actively seeking host families willing to open their doors and become an important part of the summer baseball experience.
Host families offer more than a place to stay. They provide comfort, consistency, and a connection to the community during the team’s two-month season. Families are asked to provide a bed, two meals per day, and access to laundry facilities. In return, they receive season passes, team merchandise, invitations to special events, and recognition during Host Family Night. Most importantly, they gain the opportunity to form lifelong bonds with their players.
Returning hosts Richard and Robin Guillory describe their time with former players Andrws Acosta, Mason Hulligan, and Rodiensley Ignecia as transformative.
“It was one of the most wonderful and humbling experiences we’ve ever had,” said Robin. “Andrws still checks in with us almost daily—he’s become a role model for our kids. And Mason drove all the way from Chicago after Christmas just to spend a week visiting. These guys became family.”
Charlie Brashear, who hosted Will Brassil, Aaron Morgan, and Bryce Jones, echoed the sentiment.
“They were fine young men—a true testament to their families and how they were raised, with their respect and gratefulness,” Brashear said. “Watching them grow as players over the summer was something special. On game days, they’d go out of their way to come over, give me a fist bump, or introduce me to their teammates. Building a relationship with them, and then later with their families, was something I really valued. Now, I’ve got lifelong friendships with some of those families. As a host, I loved being able to mentor and support these young men—and I can’t wait to see where their careers take them.”
These heartfelt stories are just a glimpse into what makes the host family program such a meaningful part of the Gators organization. It’s about more than baseball—it’s about community, connection, and creating lasting memories.
