The Gators had a ton of success on Saturday June 15th, as they defeated the Baton Rouge Rougarou not once, but twice. In the first game the Gators won 6-3, and in the second game they won in walkoff fashion, 7-6.
In the first game of the day, Lake Charles struggled at the plate until the first hit of the game came in the 5th inning. It was a leadoff single by Krayton Morse that started a massive inning for the Gators. In the inning, Jake Smith homered to left field that scored 3. 6 runs came around to score on 4 hits. Pitching was phenomenal for the Gators. Pullard started on the mound and threw 2 innings, and struck out 2. Phelps took over and got the Win. He threw 3 innings and gave up 3 runs, but just 1 hit. He also struck out two on the day. Primeaux came in the game for an inning and struck out 1 batter. Then the hard throwing righty, Carson Laws, came into the game in the top of the seventh, and faced 3 batters and struck all 3 of them out. The Gators would win the first one 6-3.
In game two, the offense for Lake Charles didn’t come around until the 4th inning. They plated 3 on 3 hits in the 4th. They wouldn’t score again till the 7th inning when they tied the game up with a 2 RBI double from Davis Meche. In the 7th inning they would plate 2 runs on 1 hit. Pitching this game from Lake Charles was average. Hayden Harmon got the win and the save on the bump as he went 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, and 1 K. To end the game it was a walkoff bunt single from Jake Smith that scored Owen Galt in the bottom of the 8th inning.
The Gators move to 8-7 on the season after defeating Baton Rouge twice on Saturday. They will travel to Baton Rouge on Sunday to play them at their field, looking for their third win in a row.
