The 2025 College Baseball Opening Weekend has now come and gone, marking the start of another exciting season of college baseball. For fans of the Lake Charles-based team, the Gumbeaux Gators, it was a weekend full of anticipation and action, as several members of the 2024 roster made their debut appearances. The season opener provided a glimpse of what’s to come in the Summer of 2025, as some of the Gators’ most anticipated talents took the field, while others from last summer’s roster await their chance to shine.
As for the players who are not listed below, they did not see any playing time during this opening weekend. With the season just getting started, there’s plenty of opportunity for those players to make their mark in future games.
Now, let’s dive into the weekend and see how the players from our 2024 season did, as they kicked off what promises to be an exciting new season in College Baseball,
Hitters:
Kasen Bellard / Louisiana-Lafayette | vs. San Jose State
- Bellard went 1-for-4 on the weekend, appearing in two games. He was in the Starting Lineup for the Cajuns on Sunday as the DH, batting 3rd.
Dillion Bird / Baton Rouge CC | vs. St Louis CC
- Bird, a returning piece to the 2025 Gumbeaux Gators roster, went 4-for-9 this past weekend, with two RBI’s. On Sunday’s game for the Bears, he had a solo Home Run.
Will Brassil / Colorado Christian | vs. Central Oklahoma
- Brassil had a hot weekend for the Cougars, posting an impressive 6-for-10 at the dish, with 4 RBI’s. In just 9 games so far this season for Colorado Christian, Will has hit 3 longballs and has a nice batting average of .452.
Seth Fontenot / McNeese | vs. Wichita State
- Fontenot made a brief appearance for the Cowboys this weekend on Saturday, catching the 9th inning of a game where the Pokes came from behind in a thrilling fashion and beat the Shockers of Wichita State.
Owen Galt / Louisiana-Lafayette | vs. San Jose State
- Galt got the start on Sunday for the Cajuns at 3B, batting 8th in the lineup. He got his first Collegiate Hit on Sunday, which was a double. He went 1-for-2 on the day.
William Good / Tulane | vs. Omaha
- Good got some time behind the dish this past weekend in New Orleans, but only saw two opportunities on the hitting side of things, going 0-for-2.
Carson Hepworth / Louisiana-Lafayette | vs. San Jose State
- Hepworth subbed in for the Cajuns in right field on Friday, but did not get an opportunity at the plate.
Evan Joubert / Texas Southern | Cactus Jack HBCU Classic at Daikin Park
- One of our returning pieces to the 2025 Gators Roster, Evan Joubert, got some playing time inside of the Houston Astros ballpark, which is now called Daikin Park. Joubert went 3-for-4 on the weekend, scoring the walk-off run for the Tigers on Saturday in their win over Prairie View A&M. He also had 2 RBI’s as well.
Connor Kaiser / Lamar | @ CSU Bakersfield
- Kaiser appeared in two games for the Cardinals during their California road trip and scored a run, but went 0-for-4.
Kennedy Leggett / Coastal Alabama | vs. Bishop State
- Last year’s late season addition for the Gators, Kennedy Leggett, went 3-for-10 and hit a double.
Lane Lusk / Northwestern State | vs. Central Arkansas
- Lusk went 0-for-1 on the weekend, appearing in just one game against Central Arkansas.
Prescott Marsh / Loyola (NO) | vs. Tennessee Southern
- The tw0-way player, Prescott Marsh, threw three innings on Saturday for Loyola-NO, hurling 5 strikeouts. At the dish, Marsh went 1-f0r-2.
Davis Meche / McNeese | vs. Wichita State
- Lake Charles native and Barbe product Davis Meche had a stellar Opening Weekend, where he started in two games for the Pokes at 3rd Base. He ended up going 3-for-6 on the weekend, with an RBI, two doubles, and a triple, which nearly went out of The Jeaux.
Aaron Morgan / Gardner-Webb | vs. St. Bonaventure
- A-Mo hit two bombs on the weekend for Gardner-Webb, with 4 RBI’s and a Double as well. The two homeruns came in one game for Morgan.
Krayton Morse / Western Illinois | @ Murray State
- Morse started for the Leathernecks on Friday, going 2-for-4 and scoring a run.
Austin O’Malley / TAMU-Texarkana | vs. Texas College
- O’Malley appeared in two games this past weekend for the Eagles, going 0-for-3.
Colton Ryals / Florida A&M | vs. UT-Martin
- Ryals started for FAMU on Opening Day, but ended up going 0-for-3.
Gage Trahan / McNeese | vs. Wichita State
- Trahan subbed in for the Pokes in their Sunday loss against the Shockers, but did not get an appearance at the plate.
Pitchers:
Luke Courville / Warner | vs. Florida Memorial University
- Courville pitched 4.2 innings for Warner this past weekend, giving up 4 Hits and 2 ER.
Cole Cranford / Baton Rouge CC | vs. St Louis CC
- Cranford threw 5 innings on Saturday for the Bears, giving up 7 Hits and 4 ER.
Carson Laws / Texas State | vs. Binghamton
- Ranked one of the top relief pitchers in the nation by D1Baseball, Carson Laws had an impressive weekend in “Slam Marcos” as he slammed the door shut twice for the Bobcats, picking up two saves. Keep an eye out on Laws this season, as he is expected to be a prospect for the 2025 MLB Draft, according to D1Baseball.
Parker Morgan / McNeese | vs. Wichita State
- Morgan came out of the pen on Saturday for the Pokes, pitching an inning where he struck out two Shockers players.
Colby Morse / Indiana State | vs. Wagner (Gastonia, NC)
- Morse pitched in an inning for Indiana State on Sunday, giving up three hits and 2 earned runs.
Parker Primeaux / McNeese | vs. Wichita State
- Primeaux pitched in two innings on Sunday, giving up 3 hits and 2 earned runs.
Reagan Weiblinger / Lamar | @ CSU Bakersfield
- Weiblinger, a returner for the 2o25 Gumbeaux Gators season, threw an inning of relief for the Cards this weekend.
